Association for the care of autistic children is founded in 1996 by group of parents and at the same year they were founders of Center for autism in Rijeka. Main goals of our association is to improve the quality of life of autistic persons through the development of new forms of professional work and rehabilitation, as well as changes in the understanding of the status and acceptance of people with autism in the community.
Field of activity: the city of Rijeka and its surroundings, County of Primorje-Gorski kotar, and wider. The work of the association is directed at all age groups. We invest great efforts in early intervention, inclusion, integration of children into a regular system, above all the unresolved issues of adults, and strive for the accommodation of adult living with autism in the housing community.
Most of the activities are carried out in cooperation with the Center for Autism in Zagreb, the unit of Rijeka with which we have outstanding cooperation. Every year we mark the World Autism Day which is 02.04. Various events, booths on Rijeka main square with promotional materials and children’s work, and the release of balloons in the presence of representatives of local authorities always with the presence of mayor and members of his office, our children, parents, employees, citizens and accompanying media.
In addition to many of the projects that we carry out, one of the greatest achievements of the Association is the implementation of the “Early intervention in children with autistic spectrum disorders through the local community mobile service system”, which we have been running for 8 years under the guidance of Mrs. Ivanke Pejić, pedagogue, univ. Specialist in early intervention in educational rehabilitation, psychotherapist ECP, sensory – integration pedagogue. The program is funded by the Ministry of Social Policy and Youth and implemented in cooperation with kindergarten Rijeka, Center for Autism Rijeka, Center for Social Welfare supported by Neuropsychotic and Clinical Psychologist from KBC Rijeka.
We are also part of the EISPP European Project in co-operation with the Autism Center Zagreb and the Faculty of Education Rehabilitation in front of the Republic of Croatia, and in addition to the Croatian partners in the project are the University of the United Kingdom, Macedonia, Cyprus and the organization Autisme Europe.
Our association enjoys a great reputation in the local community and has continued support from the City of Rijeka and the Primorje Gorski Kotar County, who have been following and supporting us since the foundation for realization of activities.
